Meaning without words

Images are powerful.

I have a new and profound respect for illustrators and the wordless picture books. While most of the books have been categorized for ages “4 and up,” we’ve been “reading” them to our son since he was two.

We were given the book Flotsam by David Weisner as a gift.  It is no wonder that Weisner ( has won three Caldecott Medals and two Caldecott Honors.  His stories and images are astonishing, fantastic, and clever.  This one is truly magical!
